DeafLINK Provides English / American Sign Language Interpreting services for communities within Central to SW Michigan.
DeafLINK advocates on behalf of Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind individuals needing accommodations supported by the ADA, Michigan Law, and several other Laws for persons with disabilities.
DeafLINK believes it is important to understand both Deaf Culture and Hearing Culture in order to facilitate full communication. Deaf Culture plays a key role in the lives of Deaf individuals. They share many commonalities and a unique set of social customs within their culture.
DeafLINK engages in community outreach activities, and volunteerism with an emphasis on supporting all disabled individuals who are valued members within our communities.
DeafLINK offers education to interpreters through workshops, mentorship opportunities, and extended trainings with a goal to improve communication/language skills, collaborate with other professionals, and to increase professional knowledge by which interpreters base their decisions. Sign Language and Deaf Awareness classes are also offered to community members and businesses.
DeafLINK offices are in Battle Creek, Michigan. The State of Michigan is composed of the seventh largest population of Deaf and Hard of Hearing citizens in the United States. In recent years, American Sign Language (ASL) has been recognized as its own language.
